On the 19th August 2018, the Rotary Club of Kampala Day Break in partnership with Help Africa NGO organized a one-day Medical Camp whose aim was to give medical care to the 155 Orphaned and Vulnerable under the care of the NGO.

A total number of 101 children received general medical care for various health issues. Of these 61 were girls and 40 boys. Majority of these children are living in slums around Kampala like Wandegeya – Katanga slum, Kivulu slum, Nakulabye slum, Natete Slum, Kisenyi, and from other areas outside Kampala district including, Bunamwaya, Nyanama, Ndejje Lubugumu, Wakiso, Mukono, Kitezi and Matugga.  The conditions under which people from these areas live force them to sometimes consider health checkups and treatments a “privilege” yet it is actually a right especially to the children.

The Medical camp started at 10:00 am with a health talk from some of the Rotarians and ended at 3:00 pm with Aerobics class. As reckoned earlier, the objective was to find out the health issues of the orphaned and vulnerable children under the care of Help Africa NGO and address them.

The medical care services were offered by Doctors and specialists from various hospitals and medical centers like Mulago National Referral Hospital, Mild May Hospital, Middle East Hospital, Butabika Hospital, IMC medical Centre, Georgina Eye Hospital, UHMG marketing group among others. The camp set up a general clinic, laboratory for various tests like malaria, typhoid, HIV and others. There was HIV Counselling and testing, eye check up and treatments and also treatment for skin diseases, as well as giving out free medicine to the children.
